Lok Sabha Elections Phase 2: Voter Turnout Reaches 63.50% Across 12 States
In the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections covering 88 seats across 12 states and a union territory, a voter turnout of 63.50 per cent was recorded. The Election Commission (EC) reported that polling was largely peaceful.
At 8 pm, a provisional voter turnout of 63.50 per cent was announced, expected to rise as reports from all polling stations were received. Voters were permitted to cast their ballots until the end of polling hours.
In certain villages in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura, Rajasthan’s Banswara, and Maharashtra’s Parbhani, initial voter boycotts were later resolved by authorities.
Polling began at 7 am and ended at 6 pm, with several states experiencing sweltering heat. The first phase of polling occurred on April 19 across 102 seats in 21 states and Union territories.
Voting took place across all 20 constituencies in Kerala, 14 out of 28 seats in Karnataka, 13 seats in Rajasthan, 8 seats each in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, 6 seats in Madhya Pradesh, 5 seats each in Assam and Bihar, 3 seats each in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal, and 1 seat each in Manipur, Tripura, and Jammu and Kashmir.

– The voter turnout at the conclusion of polling stood at about 63 per cent, a slight decrease from the 65 per cent in the first phase and 68 per cent in the second phase of 2019.
– Kerala registered a turnout of 70.21 per cent, with Rahul Gandhi’s Wayanad constituency recording 72.70 per cent.
– Madhya Pradesh reported a turnout of 57.88 per cent.
– Tripura recorded the highest voting percentage at 79.46 per cent, followed by Manipur at 77.32 per cent. Uttar Pradesh recorded a turnout of 54.85 per cent, and Bihar recorded 55.08 per cent.
– Manipur saw significant security presence during polling, contributing to a high turnout of 77.32 per cent.
– Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar constituency recorded a turnout of 53.30 per cent, lower than previous elections. In Bangalore, nearly half of the voters abstained, particularly in urban constituencies like Bangalore Central, Bangalore North, and Bangalore South, with turnouts ranging from 52.81 per cent to 54.42 per cent.
– Jammu and Kashmir reported 71.91 per cent turnout, and West Bengal saw 71.84 per cent. The EC received nearly 300 complaints in West Bengal, mainly related to EVM malfunctioning.
– Assam saw 71.11 per cent voter participation.
– Maharashtra’s voter turnout was 57.83 per cent, while Rajasthan’s reached 64.07 per cent.
